Are you able to see the wireless icon in the desktop and able to see the wireless networks? If not, you probably will have to install wireless card drivers.

What is your Wireless device hardware? Check with lspci command

Just a quick guess but I seem to remember a friends Acer Aspire 3xxx had a software wireless on/off switch which work ok under Windows as the software was installed as the default Acer setup but under Linux it isn't. I think there is a package for Ubuntu, acerhk-source - check for that.

Ok do I use that code in the terminal?

I looked for acerhk-source with apt-cache search acerhk and didn't find it. I did find acerhkgui as a deb that is not in the repositories I have. Here is a bit about it with a link to the project: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/acerhk-gui...bluetooth.html. The project is at sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/acerhkgui/

If you look at Ubuntu packages website, the acerhk-source package is available for 10.04, 11.04 and 11.10 but not maverick 10.10. I guess you could try downloading one of these package builds and install using dpkg -i method.
