Wireless mouse/kboard combo - require a click everytime for mouse to work

Hello folks!

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse combo which works flawlessly on Windows that, on Linux (KDE), doesn't work as expected. I have tried 2 different combos (both being BenQ brand) and the problem is always the same.

The problem is that, when I move the mouse, I always have to click (on either buttons) to make Linux move the cursor, otherwise the cursor wouldn't move at all. The keyboard works like a charm though. If I use two different transmitters (ie: one for the wireles keyboard, and another one for another wireless mouse), everything works like it should. I guess the problem lies in the fact that the combo uses the same transmitter and cannot switch from the keyboard to the mouse without first "activating" the mouse, by a click.

I use Slackware 10.2 but I've had the same problem on Fedora 5.

Thank you for your input,
Frank

This may sound like an odd question, but are you using a CRT monitor or LCD? Also, what resolution are you running for Windows and for Linux.

The keyboard and mouse combos don't usually need any sort of drivers, as the wireless part is handled by the hardware. I asked about the CRT/LCD because I've seen strange interactions with wireless devices when the monitor was at a certain resolution. If you are running different resolutions and refresh rates between Windows and Linux, the CRT might be interfering. Otherwise, behavior should be identical between the OSes.

Thank you for your answer.

I am using a 19" LCD screen.

I have the problem with gpm even before I start X server. (with gmp, I can only move the cursor up/down. When I old the right click button and move the mouse, the cursor slowly move to the right of the screen, that's really odd). Sometimes, the up/down only bug is happening in KDE too. From my tests, I think it happens in KDE only when I move the mouse in the console before starting X.

The only way I have found to not have this problem is to use one receiver for the keyboard and grab an older wireless mouse and use a second receiver, that way, I can use a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse at the same time.

I have tried tweaking the X11 config file with no good result at all :(

It really gives me the impression that I have to make a click to "start" a communication between the mouse and receiver.

Also, I forgot to specify but when I click, I can move the cursor for up to 3 seconds, then it stops moving and I have to click once again to make it move.
