Wireless connection light on...but I don't have a wireless card?

For some reason when Debian is loaded into GNOME, the wireless connection idiot light comes on. The GNOME network monitoring applet shows a wired connection only (correctly). As far as I know, I don't have a wireless card...is there some way I can check the computer for a possible second connection to the internet somewhere...or to see if the computer is busy trying to establish a (obviously unsuccesful) connection to a cell tower?
