Does anyone know if I can use my Winfast tv2000 xp tv tuner with any software for Ubuntu 8.04 and any help in steps to get it working? I am new to linux and I would like to use my tv tuner. This is my only big hold up from getting rid of windows.
I have tried to us MythTv but I don't know how to set up the backend of it. It comes up with asking for server information and such but I don't know what to enter in and I can not get past setting up the server info. I have also tried Me Tv but it says that there is no device installed. Then the last one that I tried was TvTime but that comes up with a window for a second and then disappears and nothing else happens.
I am trying to use what I have but if that is going to be to complicated does anyone know of a good tv tuner that will work with my Ubuntu and is inexpensive? I don't have any money but I will try and find one on ebay. I figure I would try and research before I buy.
Thanks in advance.
PS I am still waiting for someone to post and help me out. I have found that I think that my problem might be my xorg.conf file might not be right. When I try and run tvtime from terminal is comes up with:
*** tvtime requires hardware YUY2 overlay support from your video card
*** driver. If you are using an older NVIDIA card (TNT2), then
*** this capability is only available with their binary drivers.
*** For some ATI cards, this feature may be found in the experimental
*** GATOS drivers:
http://gatos.souceforge.net/
*** If unsure, please check with your distribution to see if your
*** X driver supports hardware overlay surfaces.
When I try and run tvtime from the applications menu it shows the window for about half a second and then closes. I have not found anything on the internet about this problem of it closing.
system
intel celeron 2.0Ghz

ATI 9600 (128mb)
Winfast 2000xp (deluxe I think?)
Please help this is just about the only thing that is keeping me booting to xp (I don't like windows).
