Windows / Linux Hard drive problem

Okay, I'll ask you all here. Since this is the hardware section.

I've got Two drives

WDC WD5000AACS (/dev/sda) (500GB)
WDC WD3200JS (/dev/sdb) (320GB)

I installed Slackware on my 320GB, my 500GB supposidly only has a 130GB free space

Same with my 320GB after uninstalling linux. I wana get Slack and Windows put back in, but When im in Windows setup, it shows both drives

Disk 0 Id 0 on both of them.

they show up correct in Bios and Linux, but I can't get em to show up right in winblows or the installation. I've tried boot disk, but none of the cd ones work, and I have no floppy. I've got USB jump drives, and SD card readers. So if anyone can help me, i'd be very helpful.

P.S. I've tried setting the drives to fat32/NTFS in the Slack Cfdisk / fdisk, but it still doesn't show up in my windows install.

i'm not entirely sure of what youre asking here, but i'll give it a try...

You may need a bios update for the drives to show up correctly - on older bios's the ata specification for hard drives has a limit of 137gb.

i have installed hard drives larger than 137gb into a system that did not support them and the OS did read the correct size without the bios update. however that was only after the OS kernel took over support for disk access. during your install, you still might only see 137gb.

as for the windows setup seeing both drives as disk 0 id 0, i'm not sure. easiest thing would be to remove the other drive from the system temporarily during the install to ensure you are installing to the correct drive.

thats what im doing, removing one, but they both show up like that. whetrher i remove hard drives or not.

Do you think if I try putting my drives into another persons (aka my dads pc), and boot up off his sata into vista, ould i get it working through there.

Go to western digital and download from tools section the program that is
suitable for preparation of your drive.
The program (utility) will format your drive(s)for a windows XP format
ie NTFS, and regardless of your bios you will end up with a hard drive
that any Linux can "see" the full size for further instalation.
