I don't think a socket 754 chip will fit in a nForce4 board. You need to change your processor to socket 939.

look at the mobo specs it is Socket 754 so will en 1 plz tell me if this stuff is compatable?!?!?!??!?!?! btw nvidia and amd just came out with new mobos with socket 754 and pci-e slots

Someone please check me on this, but I believe Linux only supports two channels of sound, so your sound card will work, but you won't get 7.1 sound. I am also unsure of the status of DVD burning in Linux. I would really suggest getting the 939 board and a AMD64 processor, as you will have an upgrade path. AMD is not puching the 754, but they will release a dual core on a 939. That will allow you to use your motherboard for a much longer time. All of your other hardware should work, though.

i am makin this a dual-boot with xp pro so i can run my games and stuff and fool around in linux for programing and getting the feel for it so i guess i can make it a 939 thnx

Linux does support 8 channels but nobody has change the software that decodes AC3 streams in a loooooooooooooooooong time.
Audigy2 cards are ok but the one that is better and easier to configure for sound is Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 or Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. All these cards perform the same in Linux. Creative Labs sound cards are pieces of shit if you ask me. I have no doubts about writing CD or DVD discs in Linux because I have no trouble doing it. I strongly suggest using kernel version >=2.6.11 because you will have some problems earlier versions. If you thinking of getting a dual core processor in the future, I suggest paying extra for ECC memory. To me $60 for a 500 watt power supply does not seem a good product. A 500 watt power supply should cost over $100 and reaching to $200. Pick another brand like Zalman, Power & Cooling, and Enermax. Antec power supplies are border line between poor and good. |

I'd do some research on the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value SB0400 card before buying it. I've not found anyone who's actually got it working in Linux yet, and they don't provide a Linux driver. If you do find anything about it, please post in your thread.

Again COOLMAX power supplies looks like pieces of shit. You should not go cheap on power supplies. Change it to something better. No, I was not saying that the power supply is Antec. I was saying picking Antec is ok.
Like I said it before buy either Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 (Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 LT is ok too). They are both cheap and better than any Creative Labs sound cards. Have a look at Hitachi's T7K series hard drives. They are as fast as Western Digital's Raptor series hard drives. The Hitachi T7K series are better for hosting an OS than any high capacity hard drive. If you want data throughput, go with Samsung, but they are the slowest when accessing data. DFI is ok but I suggest motherboards from ABIT, ASUS, or Gigabyte. Motherboards with heatpipe connected from the nForce4 chipset will give you reliablity for a long time and without noise.
