Wich soundcard do you use?

I want to buy a new soundcard,without getting headache, eveything should work with linux(ubuntu)
want to hear your opinion.

Check sound cards here in HCL.

Buy something having support of HW mixing. The good one is Creative SB Live 5.1. Working great with Alsa, it's very very cheap because it's old.

But definitely choose one that satisfies your requirements.

I'm of the opinion that external USB soundcards are superior in every way to PCI cards.

Less/no electrical noise from components inside the machine, better compatibility, and you can run a long USB cable over to your HiFi/mixing desk instead of running long (potentially noisy) analogue cables.

I've had a lot of joy with a Terratec Aurion 5.1 USB. All the analogue and optical in/outs work straight out-the-box.
