Why isn't my DVD RW being seen?

I have a CD R/RW as well as an AOPEN 16X DVD+R/RW that I just purchased. The cdrw is seen but the DVD is only seen as a cdrom. Can someone tell me why and what I can do to fix the problem?

I am using Fedora Core 4. I realize the dvd/rw is originally designed for Windows, but so is the cd/rw. Linux has really been making me happy, but now I am stuck with a depressing problem that makes no sense to me so I really do hope someone will help me. PLEASSSSSE!

Hi,

do You have any Problems with Functions of Your DVD? Or is it only not showed as a DVD-Drive?

And if there are problems, in which aplications are they and what error messages will tell about a problem?
