Why /etc/sysconfig/hwconf NIC MAC did not match ifconfig

Hi, All

I have RHEL4 AS4 and found that NIC MAC address under /etc/sysconfig/hwconf does not match the MAC address shown in ifconfig -a command output. For example,

/etc/sysconfig/hwconf shows eth1 MAC address is *:*:*:*:54
but ifconfig eth1 shows eth1 MAC Address is *:*:*:*:69

Can someone tell me what is the situation of the differences? how to handle the problem?

Quote:
HWADDR=<MAC-address>, where <MAC-address> is the hardware address of the Ethernet device. This directive is useful for machines with multiple NICs to ensure that the interfaces are assigned the correct device names regardless of the configured load order for each NIC's module. This directive should not be used in conjunction with MACADDR.

hwconf mac address does not match netconf.C and ethtab

I am having the same issue on a Checkpoint VSX R67 install. How do you tell which file has the correct mac address in it?
