Which MAC address do I use for cable modem ?

Before I get started with the connection I need some help. I am planning to connect to Comcast with a Linksys CM100 cable modem using the ethernet cable back to my eth0 port on my Mandriva 2007 PC. When I call Comcast to register the MAC address which MAC address do I register ? The modem address or the ethernet port address ? No router is installed. Not planning to use a firewall to get started. Thanks in advance !

The modem's MAC address, because that is all that their network sees.

Be warned: You should not enable any unnecessary services (ssh, apache etc) until you have a firewall installed or you may experience unhappiness.

I connect with ADSL, and my (good) firewall is in my Netgear DG834G modem / router.

Thanks tredegar ! modem is connected and is working. Now for a simple firewall. I would have prefered ADSL but it is not available in my area.
