Which Linux Distro is commercially supported like Windows?
 

I'm having problem making the Audio and Video work on my new PC. I've tried Slamd64 and Ubuntu. The audio and video works perfectly in Windows. Checking the installation CD of the Motherboard, i saw Linux Drivers for audio and video. The audio is the source package of alsa and the video driver is the rpm for SUSE 9.x. According to the readme, Intel (my soundcard is Intel HDA) provides drivers only to the major linux distributions like SUSE Professional and Red Hat Enterprise.

Should I switch to this Linux Distro to ease the hardware driver installation.

BTW according to the readme in the video's driver, the driver is for the ff. distros only:

a. Redhat Enterprise Linux WS v3 with kernel 2.4.21-4.EL or kernel 2.4.21-4.ELsmp
b. SuSE Linux Professional 9.0 with kernel 2.4.21-144-default
c. SuSE Linux Professional 9.1 with kernel 2.6.4-54-default or kernel 2.6.4-54-smp
d. SuSE Linux Professional 9.0 with kernel 2.6.8-24-default or kernel 2.6.8-24-smp
e. Mandrake 10.0 with kernel 2.6.3-7mdk or kernel 2.6.3-7mdksmp
f. RedFlag Linux Desktop 4.0 with kernel 2.4.20-8 or kernel 2.4.20-8smp
g. TurboLinux Desktop 10.0 with kernel 2.6.0-6 or kernel 2.6.0-6smp

Is it OK to install the driver in OpenSUSE 10.0?

Yes. The OpenSuse OS is simply Suse with some proprietary packages removed. PAckages written for either one will work in both.

You may find that the readme file holds true in some cases. Red Hat and SuSE are the most popular distros. SuSE may be the easiest to use but I can't be sure because I haven't used Red Hat in about ten years. Give SuSE a try.
