Which infrared receiver + remote ctrl are plug-and-play with Linux ?
Hardware is rather hell with Linux.
If you have one set of receiver+remote that you bought & that is plug-and-play and works without any compiling a kernel and looking hours for drivers, please post to help others ?
just make your own reciever, and use absolutely any IR remote control with it through lirc. http://lnx.manoweb.com/lirc/ personally i adore my £80 logitech harmony remote and the £1.42 adapter i made.

You can search the USB working devices list. Or if you are unsure just buy something cheap and try it out. Plug in the dongle, run dmesg, ans see if it is claimed by some driver. Once you have found a working USB dongle, you can use it with other remotes.
