which DVD burners work in core 2

Hi
I am looking at getting a DVD burner and am wondering if

1) dual layer burners work in linux
2) can you use a dual layer burner as a single layer if there is no software yet (assuming there is not any yet)
2) Best brands or any duds to steer clear of.

thanks for the info but
there does not seem to be any dual layer burner info there am I just too
early for linux?
