Which 2.6 kernel module is required for AlSA to recognize nVidia/nForce onboard?

Hi,

I compiled kernel 2.6.7 and I am sure I enabled ALSA and also selected the ALSA module for the intel chipset (which included the support for nVIDIA chipset onboard).

alsaconf does not detect my card even now!

I am using an ASUS A7N8X-E motherboard and I have onboard sound. Any ideas?

I am willing to recompile the kernel with this support if anybody knows which module I need.

Thanks.

Just enable the sound support in the kernel. download the latest alsa packages from alsa.org (1.0.8) and compile them all. when compiling the drivers just do a ./configure. don't choose any sound card. Make sure you also compile the utils, tools, libs and oss support. Run alsaconf and choose what you need to get configured.

hope this helps.

On another note (AND A BETTER SOLUTION)... go to nvidia.com and download the NFORCE drivers. They have driver source code for the Ethernet and Sound. It is a .run file just like the nVidia GFX drivers and once you execute it will compile them for you. The ethernet will be called nvnet and the sound will be called nvsound. Load these instead of the default forcedeth and snd-i810 in your /etc/modules.conf or /etc/modprobe.conf file and reboot. you'll be done in no time.

Run alsamixer to set the volumes.

Enjoy.
