when burning sounds like two alley toms in heat

Hi,

I am running fedora core 2 (2.6 kernel) with lg CD burner.

I the past I have ripped Cd's with this burner and encounter no problems. I used kaudio creator to rip and k3b to burn.

Now with no changes in hardware or software am I ripping gibberish. It sounds like 2 alley toms in heat with a lot of static.

I have tried ripping Cd's that I have had success with in the past- same results.

I have even loaded Mandrake 10.1 on a spare hd and had similar results.

I have run cdparanioa (cdparanoia -v "-1") in an attempt to see any errors. Maybe I am not using the app correctly?

My CD burner plays just fine. It will not rip properly. It burns the jibberish just fine.

With success in the past and problems following distro to distro it would seem that I have a problem with my cd burner. Correct?

Probably. I had a CD-RW fail on me. It refused to burn either CD-RW or CD-R but it read them OK. I had no noise problems though.
