wheel-function not working on intellimouse explorer

This is an Intellimouse Explorer with a usb-connection. I am trying to get the wheel-function work but I'm stuck.

in XF86Config-5 it looks like:
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Buttons" "7"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"

I have tried with ps/2 and imps/2 as alternative protocols and "4 5" for the zaxismapping value.

when I start X I run the commands
xmodmap -e "ponter = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5"
imwheel -k -b "67"

and in .imwheelrc it looks like:
".*
None, Up
None, Down

A hexdump of /dev/input/mice gives me nothing but the normal keys, no scroll nor side-buttons.

This configuration is on a 2.6.5 kernel and with a 4.3.0 xserver

Maybe someone can figure out what's wrong?
cheers.

What distro are you running, and can you give some specs about your mouse and mobo? -- J.W.
