I recently did a new install of RH9 and upon checking the Kernel logs I found the following messages:

The EXT3 part of your post was normal output.

I appreciate your help on this and for your link on the subject. But alas I think that this has only added to my confusion. I checked out your link and it appears to me that it is a cable problem ??? or a data transfer problem regarding UDMA which is protected by {CRC} ??? This is all news to me So what exactly is the Suse guy saying, that I would need to change the cable I use ? or somehow adjust the transfer rate. Ooof I am just learning Linux and am learning quite a lot but am afraid this is a mystery to me. Thanks again for your help.

Try the "use multimode by default" option for ATA in the kernel.

If you get this error, try to say Y here:
