What Linmodem should I buy?

I haven't been able to get my current winmodem to work, so I need someone to tell me where I can get a good linmodem that will work nicely.

motorola has a driver for mandrake now redhat

http://www.motorola.com/softmodem/driver.htm

but its really easier to just use an external one as it will work without any drivers

I agree with heema that if you are going to be buying a new modem, an external one is probably a better choice. That being said, the LQ HCL may be of interest. -- J.W.

If your stuck on an internal modem Conexant modems work (at least in my experience). I would also recommend you get a "hard" modem instead of a "soft" modem. The difference (for those of you who don't know) is that a hard modem does all the processing on the modem. A "soft" or "win" modem is basically a phone jack you plug into a PCI slot and the CPU does the rest with software usually only programed for windows.

I think I've found some good eternal modems, maybe someone with an eye for this can check it out to see if they're any good.

the cheapy) 3NET USB modem

the not so cheapy) U.S. Robotics USB

mid grounder) Innocom external
