Ok, thanks! It might be my adblocker, then.

I currently use an IBM Thinkpad with a Pentium M (2002?). I don't think that's old, but I know a lot of people around here seem to think that only a 64-bit processor and 2GB RAM are worth having!
IMHO a Sandy Bridge CPU and 4GB RAM should be the bare minimum.

I still use an IBM X31 with a Pentium M, which dates from 2002 or 2003, when I'm out and about. Salix runs well on it. This desktop is modern in comparison -- I built it in 2005.

Before I went down the IBM road, I had a Q60 from 1999: Motorola 68060 based and running a port of Red Hat.

The oldest box I've installed Linux on is a circa 1996 Sun Ultra 2, 8Gb memory, 2 x 300Mhz (Yup! that's MEGA hertz!) 64 bit UltraSparc ii processors and a couple of 9.1Gb Seagate SCSI disks. It's still collecting dust and has a 2006 version of Sparc Gentoo installed. The main purpose was to learn about Linux at the time. I had to install it numerous times as I kept selecting the wrong SCSI driver. It's a bit painful when you've gone through the whole download, compile rigmarole to find it saying it has no bootable device! Rats! Compiling with these er... high speed processors was an overnight job so the whole thing took ages. A very useful experience all in all though.

Play Bonny!
