What HDMI capture board to choose?

I'd like to add an HDMI capture board to watch HD TV on VLC/Ubuntu, using an IPTV set-top-box. There are not many choices, and I don't want to purchase an half-baked Windows-only capture board. What model do you suggest me to buy?

I have never seen an actual hdmi capture device due to the hdcp deal. I have seen the Hauppauge HD PVR but it is not really hdmi.

What are you looking at, any examples?

I'm looking at the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle, the tech specs say it's compatible with Linux, but I'm reluctant. I would like to plug my IPTV set-top-box onto my computer and watch TV with VLC...

Only the pro has linux support.

Operating System Compatibility Compatible with Microsoft Windows™, Apple Mac OS X and Linux.


The shuttle only is offers as MS support. I doubt something that new would have linux support yet.
