I have been given a VCD from a friend which is bad. I can play it in xine by skipping over the bad sections, but there are several of them and it's a lot of hassle. I cannot copy the contents of the CD-ROM because of a number of disk errors. Is there anything that can be done to try to salvage the contents? Like, I know cdparanoia can attempt to fix errors, but that only seems to work on audio CDs. This is a VCD, so it's basically a CD-ROM, and cdparanoia doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with it.
The VCD came from India and it's quite unlikely that I will be able to replace it.
Have you thought of one of those resurfacing / cleaning gadgets. They cost about $19.99 (U.S.). You apply the liguid on the CD then spin it in the unit for a minute or so... Supposed to work.
