Weird video problem

First some information:

This is perfectly installed on (Ubuntu Breezu 5.10)

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: MOBILITY RADEON X600 Generic
OpenGL version string: 2.0.5642 (8.22.5)

This is my glxgears output:

12802 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2560.296 FPS
12768 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2553.458 FPS
12768 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2553.467 FPS
12768 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2553.465 FPS
12768 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2553.515 FPS

According to this i think everything is ok..

So i installed ut GOTY using the installer from the loki website.

But the fps in unrealtournament doesn't get above 13 fps running at 1440x900

I tried different modes, just opengl and sdlgl but no difference.

Though at a lower resolution, lets say 1024x768 it works better, but with the videocard it should run perfect at high resolutions.

I know it can't be the hardware specs (running dual boot together with windows xp) and running ut smooth in windows.

If anyone knows something i could do that might help please help.

I'm not familiair with ATI, but the drivers aren't as good as Nvidia's Linux drivers. A friend of mine has trouble with his ATI running OpenGL screensavers, while the card runs Quake 4 with bells and whistles just fine in Windows. Go figure.
