Weird Alsa Errors with Alsa and Audigy 2 PCMCIA???

Hi I recompiled my kernel and only left in those drivers that were relevant to my system. This is something I have done quite often before - so I have a fair impression of what works and what does not. However this is a new Gentoo install on my new laptop - so it is possible that I might be missing something, or something has changed that I don't know about.

The problem is, when I start up I get errors concerning an incorrect modules update and then later, when loading the alsa modules, I get a further warning. (Which of course results in no sound). My card is a Creative Sound blaster 2 PCMIA - which functions well in several other flavors of Linux I have tried.

This is the entire layout of the sound section of my kernel .config. If anyone can spot where I might be going wrong, your input would be very much appreciated.

Code:

* Warning: the current /etc/modprobe.devfs has not been automatically generated
 * Use "modules-update force" to force (re)generation.

Code:

* Loading ALSA modules ...
* Could not detect custom ALSA settings.  Loading all detected alsa drivers.
*  Loading: snd_ca0106 ...
*  Loading: snd_emu10k1
*  Loading: snd_emu10k1x
*  Loading: snd_seq_oss

** Warning failed to load all necessary drivers.**

This is the layout of my kernel config

well, rerun 'modules-update force' as recommended and see if that first message you posted goes away.

Dmesg can be a great help when kernel-level tasks are failing, which is what is sort of happening.

Cheers.

Yeah... I did that, however the message didn't go away.

Also running dmesg simply produced the following message:

Code:

[4294673.835000] ALSA device list:
[4294673.835000]  No soundcards found.

That is the only mention of anything to do with Alsa in my entire dmesg.

The thing is can anyone see what I have done wrong? AFAIK my Audigy PCMCIA card is covered by the standard Alsa Audigy drivers (emu101k) and I have enabled all of the relevant stuff in my kernel.

So what might cause it to fail like this?

Hey, I checked dmesg and I get that exact same sort of error(gentoo, 2.6.17-r8) only sound works on this integrated AC97 audio. Maybe your card isn't fully supported by the in-kernel driver yet and you must download a external alsa package. Here is a page with load about the audigy: http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...module=emu10k1
