Question Web-browsing keys on Intellipoint 3.1 Optical Mouse (NOT wireless)

I am new to Linux. I recently installed Fedora Core 6.
I am using a Microsoft Intellipoint 3.1 mouse with a scrollbar and web browsing buttons. Everything works except for the web-browsing keys.

How do I fix this problem? Do I need to install drivers? I am sure Microsoft will not provide any drivers for a Linux system.

Have you looked through this thread? http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ad.php?t=21303

I had good luck in figuring out what my mouse configuration needed to be by running xf86cfg and viewing the button press events in xev. I wrote down how I had set the mouse up in xf86cfg and made the changes to the XF86Config-4 file manually. If that makes no sense to you, then read the whole thread. It should make some sense by the time you get to the end.

Question Need more help

I am not sure how to follow that information. It seems to assume more knowledge than I have. I have been using Linux for less than a week.

Oh. Well, that is a problem, because doing some of the things in that thread can mess the X-Windows system up pretty badly if you don't do them right. I'd hate to have you do something that prevented you from opening the desktop at all. I think you're just going to have to live with it until you get a better understanding of Linux.

Question Alternate solution

Are there any mice which Fedora will use without problems?

Are there other distributions which will use my current mouse without problems?
