Want to get new vid card, any other hardware I need?

I was shopping around at best buy the other day, and came across the 9800 XT 128mb Radion, by ATI, priced at $300. I have a little cash i could use to upgrade my pc, and I heard this new 9800 XT line from radeon Rocks in putting out lots of FPS. I run a Nvidia Geforce MX somethin, 64mb right now. It's...i guess..ok, But i think this new ATI vid card would put out a lot more FPS in my gaming. Anyway, would this new card slow down my pc? Here are the basic specs:

P4 2 Ghz cache: 512MB
120 GB 7200 RPM hard drive
Not sure which motherboard i have, dont know how to check in mandrake 9.2

Could my processor still handle the video card? would I see much of a difference really?
Thanks for the time to answer my question.

your specs are fine... and yes, that card rocks... remember to use the latest ati drivers instead of whatever your distro uses by default...
