Vuescan, Nikon Coolscan 5000ED USB Scanner, SuSE Linux64 AMD - trouble with timeout

I am using the above mentioned configuration.

When scanning with the Nikon USB scanner it often happens (between 10 and 90 % of the scans), that not the whole slide (picture) that was selected in the preview is scanned.

See the error mesages (on another PC with the same software very similar):

Based on the software vendor, he recommends the following (but I am not sure if this makes sense because SUSE 9.2 is using Kernel 2.68 - 24 and there should already be already EHCI for USB 2.0 active).

Hamrick Software about Vuescan uner Linux (recommendations):
If you're having problems with USB timeouts (i.e. with the Nikon CoolScan IV (LS-40), make sure you use the "usb-uhci" (CONFIG_USB_UHCI) module instead of the alternate "uhci" (CONFIG_UHCI_ALT) module. You might also increase the kernel usb timeout value (CONFIG_USB_LONG_TIMEOUT=y).

Sorry but I am not an expert. Hope there is all the necessary information.

Any Idea ?

Thanks in advance, Klaus
