Vostro 1500 infrared receiver with LIRC

I just got a Dell Vostro 1500, and I noticed that it comes with an infrared receiver which I'd like to configure to work with LIRC. However, I can't figure out how to get it working, and I don't see anything in dmesg or lspci that would give me a clue as to whether it's recognized or what the chipset is. Has anybody had any luck configuring the built-in ir receiver on dell laptops?
Thanks
lspci -v output

Unfortuantly, the Vostro 1500 IR reciever only recieves -- made for dell's media remote that goes in the express card slot.

i don't know if irdc works with recievers.

I'm trying to get it so that I can control my computer with a remote, not the other way around, so I should only need receive functionality, not transmit. Does anyone know the chipset for the vostro receiver so that I can more easily do research regarding support for it?
Thanks,

Hey elyk, if you ever managed to figure this out, could you post your solution? I'm currently trying to do something very similar (configure a remote with my inspiron 1520)
