Video working perfectly but no sound. On an AMD A4 3400 APU with radeon HD 6410d.

Video working perfectly but no sound.
On an AMD A4 3400 APU with radeon HD 6410d. 3.7 Ghz
8 gig mem Biostar A55 MH motherboard.
Debian Linux Squeeze 6.0.5 kernal 2.5.32-5-amd64
The sound is showed to be working on scope in VLC Media Player
but no sound comes out the speakers.
I'm using the ATI catalyst proprietary drivers.possibly the issue.
Do I need a tool to see if Radeon HD is doing Audio?

error message from VLC:
Potential ALSA version problem:
VLC failed to initialize your sound output device (if any).
Please update alsa-lib to version 1.0.23-2-g8d80d5f or higher to try to fix this issue.

Biostar A55MH has a VIA VT1708B sound chip-

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/...S_ID=558&tab=2

VIA VT1708B should be supported from ALSA verserion 1.0.16 onward-

http://www.alsa-project.org/main/ind....15_v1.0.16rc1

Squeeze has ALSA 1.0.23, so it should work.

Try running 'alsamixer'. Check to make sure that the sound isnt muted.

No Sound ...... AMD A4 3400 APU with Radeon HD 6410.

O.K. I finally got the audio working.....
After doing all the things that were suggested in other messages,
like checking dmesg & xrandr, /sbin/lspci & var/log/messages etc .....

I was checking out alsa & alsamixer, when I found out I had three
Audio drivers loaded, one of them being the Radeon HD audio.
They all apeared to be banging into each other.
So ......I thought to myself.... hey I don't need HD audio.
I then went into my BIOS setup and disabled the HD audio.
Reboot.... and YEH! ... the audio worked, although low volume.
So using alsamixer I raised the volume and YAHOO .....

Everything is great!

P.S. I have to thank you guys here, for forcing me to think.
I spent a week trying to get the audio to work... no luck.
Till I came here and read all the very helpful post's.
Thank you !
