video mode not supported

I just got a new LCD. When I boot fedora, the monitor swithes to another mode when x starts. It says "video mode not supported". It is a samsung sync master 213t. I even chaged the resolution to the lowest setting with my other monitor, and the same thing happens. What do I do?

You need to set the correct vsync and hsync rates in your x configuration file. They should be in the manual that came with the monitor. Most likely the problem is refresh rate and not resolution.

thx,
that totally worked. I have another question. When I looked online, and in the manaul, it just said 75 and 60 at full resolution. Does this refer to the horizontal or the vertical refresh? I set them both to 75 max. I think I am able to creep the other one up however. The monitor says 74.9X60 but does not tell which is which either.

What is typical for the other setting? I mean how high do you think I could raise it?

For the Samsung 213T
30-93 is the analog hsync (if you are using the VGA out).
30-80 is the digital hsync (if you are using the digital out).
56-75 is always the vsync rate.

To be honest, I'm not sure how exactly the sync relates to the refresh rate, but I got those numbers off Samsung's website.
