Video Card Issues ATI Mobility Fire GL V5200

Hello everyone! I am new to Linux and am using Freespire. I have a Fujitsu Siemens Celsius H240 and am trying to install the ATI drivers to run on it. I first tried just changing the resolution, then I tried using the update tool in console and updating the files and using the restricted manager tool to check ATI drivers, then I tried installing and unpacking the ATI drivers I downloaded. Basically everytime I try one of these methods after I restart I get either a gray or black screen with a blinking cursor upon restart and then I have to run Redetect mode and revert back to original settings in order to run Linux. I really need some help here! Please!!! Maybe I am not doing something correctly?

Thank you for your help in advance!!!
