vid card setup: x1900 and digital output

hi everyone,
I just installed fedora core 6, and am having some video issues. first, and most important, is that the display settings do not seem to have a compatible setting with my monitor. it is a 19" widescreen with 1440x900 resolution. when i go to the system->admin->display, i select 1440x900, but when i go to system->preferences->screen resolution there is nothing like that, so i get a widened display, and i don't think its the right resolution.

also, i would like to use a digital cable to connect my computer to my monitor, but the analog one is the only that will work past bios.

i tried to install the ati drivers, but don't think it did the trick (gui won't open). any ideas? my X11/xorg.conf file is gone (think ati deleted it)..is that a problem?

Thanks,
Trevor

The fle is not X11/xorg.conf but /etc/X11/xorg.conf... No wonder you can't seem to find it. If it didn't exist, you wouldn't get any display at all.

I suspect that you simply need to add "1440x900" to the Display section.

ya, i know where it is supposed to be..but its not there (i just didn't say the whole path). there are some backup files xorg.conf.backup, and a couple others (not at that computer right now), but no plain old 'xorg.conf' file. this is after i installed the ati drivers, but don't really think they installed correctly..i can't even open up the gui app.

any other thoughts?

You can always replace one of the backups from the command line:
cd /etc/X11
cp xorg.conf.backup xorg.conf

And then you can install the drivers while you are still on the command line - providing you've got the livna repository set up, of course:
yum install kmod-fglrx
