Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Vibration Feedback support for USB Racing Wheels on linux?

I've recently bought USB racing wheel with vibration feedback support ("Logitech Formula Vibration Feedback Wheel" - no force feedback, though). The wheel itself is detected and seems to work fine, but (of course), without vibration feedback (as I know it is unsupported in Wine and I just don't know how I can test it on Linux without Wine).

I'm using slackware 12 with 2.6.23.16 kernel.

So, the questions are:
1) is vibration feedback supported at all (on Linux)?
2) is there a test application (for Linux) just to check if it works or not? (something like fftest from "joystick" package)

Additional information:

1) I've already tried to find something about vibration feedback using google search, but had no luck - either there is no information about subject, or it is hidden under a tons of advertisement and input device reviews (or maybe I just missed the article).

2) I've also tried to use fftest to test vibration feedback, but it doesn't work -seems like either vibration feedback have nothing to do with force feedback or my wheel just isn't supported (wheel requires drivers to enable vibration feedback on Windows)

I'll appreciate suggestions/links.

Well, I know that force feedback is an option in the kernel configuration (so there is support for it in Linux, at least) but as for actually testing and utilizing it, I can honestly say I have never seen any mention about it in any documentation I have read.

As I understand now (correct me if I'm wrong, I might be mistaken), force feedback and vibration feedback are not the same thing. Basically (as I understand after searching/reading several reviews) , force feedback is more complicated/expensive, and the wheel with force feedback can turn itself around, while wheel with vibration feedback can only shake. Or maybe I'm wrong, since I'm bit confused with a "force vs vibration".

There are a lot of mentions about force feedback, and it looks like Linux supports it via iforce module, but there are no mentions about vibration support. As I've said already, I've tried to test wheel with fftest, it doesn't work.

Well logically if the kernel can support something as complicated as having a device interactively resist motion, certainly it should be able to make it simply shake.
