USRobotics Modem and 3ComMdm
I am trying to switch my home PC from Windows to Linux... All has gone well so far, except for my modem:
It is a US Robotics PCI Faxmodem Model 5610. When I installed my first Linux Distro, Red Hat 7.1, the installation program found and configured it automatically. However I was not happy with the Red Hat distro, so I have wiped it out and loaded SuSE 8.2 which did not automatically find it. After going to USR/3Coms website, I found a linux driver/config tool called 3ComMdm, which I downloaded and installed. However, whenever I run the program, I get the message "Cannot set Serial info: Address already in use". I have looked around through KDE/SuSE config tools, and I found where it is listing a modem called "Other" that does not work. Could that be conflicting with the setup routine? If so how do I get rid of it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I have about a weeks worth of linux experience, so please over explain any suggestions. Thanks! -XDJ |
