Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I have a Dell D600 laptop with ATI Radeon 9000 (R250 chipset). I have installed the latest (well meaning, the last version which was released last yr to ahve support for the 9000) from ATI
Using kernel 2.6.19-1.2911.fc6 (I *think* this is the latest Fedora core, but they change everyday...) and Xorg 7.1
My laptop lcd support upto 1024x768 and i get this with no issues. However, when i boot up my machine with laptop docked i get a black screen both on my external LCD as well as on my laptop (once i undock it). I have been playing around with this i.e. making changes to xorg.conf , and i do remember a time when i did get display on my lcd but it wasnt at my expected 1280x1024 resolution, but i cant tell for sure if fglrx was loaded at that time or not. At one point i also used the "System->Preferences" option which might explain an extra screen & device section in there....
I am hoping someone out there may have a similar configuration and can help me out, i just spent too much time on this now. [Note, some input device sections are truncated for brevity]
And i really appreciate any help or insights you guys might have. Is there anything i need to do in particular to make sure my computer is properly docked...i.e. recognized by linux??
Here's my xorg.conf
