Using an ieee1394 camera in linux

Hi, lately I've been playing around trying to get my firewire camera to work in linux. The camera is supported by libdc1394. As far as I can tell it is fully IIDC complient so it should work with Coriander. However, when I run coriander, I get the following error in a dialog box:

"Warning: could not find a Digital Camera on the bus.

Please check that:
- the cables are properly set
- the devices on the bus are properly powered
- your camera is compliant with the Digital Camera specs
(see http://www.1394ta.org)."

and at the same time I get the error message:

"Libdc1394 error (dc1394_control.c:dc1394_get_camera_info:421): Tagged register not found : Could not get model name leaf offset"

from the command line.

The camera shows up in gscanbus, but the power light on top of it never turns out (though I do hear it zero the focus when I plug it in. I have used firewire disks through that port and they have worked fine. I have the modules ieee1394, raw1394, video1394, and ohci1394 loaded. I am running a 2.6.12 kernel under a Gentoo Linux distribution.

Any ideas what I could try? I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find any information to get it to work. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
