Smile USB Wifi Adapter does not work in Ubuntu


I bought a USB Wifi Adapter, but it does not work in Ubuntu.
The CD driver does not have anything for linux.

So, what can I do?

Hi,

from what I've found, your device uses the atheros chip. these have pretty good support under linux. However, from what I understand it is being enabled by the ath_htc driver, which is relatively new (what version of ubuntu are you using?). I suggest you try installing compat-wireless. A howto is here

I am using Ubuntu 11.10,
can I install its driver from Synaptic Package Manager?

Offically, yeah.

Unoffically, no.

I'm seeing lots of forum posts, etc. where people are saying that the TL-WN721N works out of the box with 11.10.

If you want you might try it under ndiswrapper.

Get online using the wired interface.
Go to the main menu.
Click on System than additional drivers.


That should get you going.

If not go to the console and type lspci and post the results.
