USB to VGA with Linux

Howdy All,

Anyone know of a good USB to VGA adapter that works with Linux (randr preferably). My new netbook lacks any video out so I'd like to do it via USB if possible.

Cheers,
~Jeff

Don't think so. Do the math. USB isn't fast enough, and the support software isn't there. You can use a terminal, ssh into it, or use 'remote desktop' type programs. I would fix the netbook.

I looked around for a driver for a unit that we use in windows and didn't find much help. Keep looking around. They might make one but all I can say is I didn't find any support for the device we use.

Some note says this may work. http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-E.../dp/B000WTI6CI

Someone else did the math and USB is fast enough. The hardware exists, I was just asking for Linux support before jumping in and ordering something.

There was libdlo which was intended to allow USB to VGA (more specifically usb monitors) which I believe has now been pushed into the kernel as a framebuffer device so in theory you should be ok if your devices kernel is reasonably recent as to the specific version I'm currently awaiting a response from the libdlo mailing list on that matter.

To quote the freedesktop.org site "A fully open source (GPL) driver which supports all DisplayLink devices to date (all DL1xx devices) is in the mainline of the Linux 2.6.38 kernel, and can be compiled as a module for certain older kernels. It is called udlfb. "
