I have a Dell XPS M1210 laptop with a Centos 5.7 installation. My laptop has only one network connection and I am trying to install one of several USB TO NETWORK Adapters. My computer does not seem to regnonize the new hardware. How do I install one of these adapters?

What is the make/model of the USB/Ethernet adapter? Most of the ones I've used tend to use very common drivers (Realtec), which would be a part of the CentOS distro, and almost certainly part of a default installation.
As root, run the following command, before plugging in the USB/Ethernet adapter. Post, here, the results that are printed immediately after plugging in the adapter.
Code:
# as root...
tail -f /var/log/messages
Also run 'dmesg' immediately after plugging in the adapter. If there are lines that differ from those in /var/log/messages, post those, here, too.

When I put in the above command and plugged in one of the USB to network adaptors, I got:
Jan 29 18:36:16 localhost kernel: usb 2-1 new full speed usb device using uhcihcd

Thank you very much.

Interesting. That command was intended to be merely diagnostic in nature, not remedial. Running that command did not cause it to work; something else changed. At any rate, I'm glad to hear that you're on your way.
