USB to IDE

I purchased a Cables Unlimited USB to IDE adapter. I am using Ubuntu 8.10 and nothing shows up under computer or anywhere else. I was aware when I bought it that it only supported Windows and Mac, but for $22, it was worth a shot. Any ideas on how to get it mounted? I am not exactly a newby, but I'm pretty lost on mounting procedures and the like.

You need to determine if the hardware is detected when a connection is made. Unplug the usb, then plug it in again. Open a terminal and type: dmesg paste the output here, also the output of lsusb.

Most IDE to USB adaptors present themselves as standard USB mass storage devices. If this is the case, it is supported in Linux. To figure out what kind of device it is, plug in your adapter and run "lsusb" on the command line as root. If you recognize one line of its output as your adapter, run "lsusb -s <id> -v", replacing "<id>" with the number at the left of that row. Post the output of both commands in

blocks.
