USB SD card reader stopped working after Installing gfx card

I have a generic card reader (no brand name on it) that always worked, but since I installed a new graphics card, for whatever reason it refuses to work now. Any card I plug in it does not show up on the desktop, and nothing in dmesg. It's basically acting like it's not plugged in, but it is. If I plug a USB stick in the same USB hub then it works. The video card I installed is a Gigabyte GTX750 using Nvidia driver on Linux Mint 17.

How would I go about getting this to work? Thanks in advance.

Can't tell you how to fix it. Sounds like maybe a IRQ conflict in the bios that precedes the operating system.

I run into the same thing with a touchpad freeze on my netbooks after I put my netbook on the a/c charger that is not
stock but aftermarket chinese charger instead. I have to use a external mouse while on the charger.

So I guess what I am suggesting. Get a USB to SD external adapter and read your SD cards with that if sticking with that
graphics card. I can't really say for sure though with the little info given.

Just a best guess.

Double check with a live media or original 17 installer to see if usb shows up.

IRQ conflict? Isin't that a problem from the win98 days? That's the last time I had to deal with that.

I tried a live distro and it still wont show up, so this is looking pretty grim... I really want to be able to read SD cards from this machine. I have a DSLR that I use a lot. Is there a way to change the IRQ or something?

This motherboard sucks though, it acts very strange with an add-on video card. The post can take like 5 minutes at times, it's brutal. This is my main machine so RMAing is not an option or I'd be down for weeks, can't afford that not to mention I really don't feel like having to reinstall, I just dealt with that not that long ago and I finally have more or less stuff working like I want. Is there anything else I can do to get this working? If I buy another card reader is there a chance that it will work?

USB sticks work fine. Do they make card readers that just emulate a USB stick? I'm only really concerned about SD cards.

Hmm nice to know Walmart has that, saves me from having to order and wait. Think I'll go check it out now.

Just a shot in the blue, but what PSU are you using for this machine?

Found a USB reader at Future Shop, and that one works! It's basically one that does only SD and micro SD so it probably just emulates a USB stick, which works fine.

PSU is Corsair CX Series CX600M 600W ATX 12V 80 Plus Bronze.

OK, that is a high quality PSU with enough power, so my suspicion does not work out.
