USB scanner and Suse 9.1
Hello,
I've been trying to get my Lexmark x73 scanner working with Suse 9.1 and I can't figure out how to have it detected using sane-find-scanner... (the printer is working fine though) I've downloaded the lastest backends for Sane (which are supposed to be fully compatible with my scanner) Here's the problem: lsusb is giving me the following: Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 001 Device 006: ID 043d:0014 Lexmark International, Inc. Bus 001 Device 003: ID 043d:0029 Lexmark International, Inc. Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 sane-find-scanner: # No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that # you have loaded a driver for your USB host controller and have installed a # kernel scanner module. Kernel version: 2.6.4 I can't find anything related to USB scanner in the kernel config anyway :/ Thank you guys ! |
2.6 kernels don't have the usb scanner module anymore, if I recall correctly..I have (or rather had - my dad just picked it up and took away) a usb scanner and noticed this when I upgraded from 2.4 to 2.6...read Sane's docs or google for it to find the correct way to get the scanner work. I think your "problem" is because of the usb-scanner module not being in kernel...

Make sure you have the following enabled in your kernel:
File Systems ->Pseudo filesystems -> /proc filesystem support Device Drivers ->USB Support ->USB Device filesystem UHCI or EHCI (USB drivers) as modules If these items weren't enabled, you'll need to enable them and recompile the kernel |
Scanner - further (and my problems...)
Have you used YaST to detect your scanner? You do not need to go in through sane.
Having detected the scanner, YaST enables you to test whether it's functioning. However, having done that for a Canoscan 670U, neither Kooka nor xsane are too impressed...any thoughts would be welcome. # xsane Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Invalid XDM-AUTHORIZATION-1 key (failed key comparison) (xsane:5642): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: # lsusb Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 002 Device 002: ID 04a9:220d Canon, Inc.
