USB printer CanonS100SP installation problem

my printer was having a problem at the time of installation itself. it was working very slowly. i called a local expert . now its not working. i went thru the installation myself again.
i ran the printer configuration from the start menu. in the queue the printer was detected dev/usb/lp0 Canon S100SP.when i pressed forward button it was asked to select the printer model(why this question already the printer was detected??) i selected it as canon S100 (there was no S100SP in the database).
when i gave for a test print an error message came
There was a problem in sending CUPS test page to 'printer'
Get_local_host: 'localhost' IP address not available!
again if the print manager is clicked following message appears
No printers found. Run the printer configuration tool?

Check your /etc/hosts file, it should have a line "127.0.0.1 localhost". If it doesn't - you may add it. This will make 'localhost' IP available.
