Hi,

there are 8 usb ports on my comp and whenever i restart my Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 it recognises 5 ports randomly...

kernel-2.4.21-4.ELsmp

so if my keybd or mouse is not on one of the "chosen ports" i will have to replug them....

i did a lsusb and this is what is shown

Any assistance is appreciated...

Checked any USB related BIOS settings?
Anything related in dmesg output?

Make sure the hid and usb modules for keyboard and mouse are loaded during boot up.

In the BIOS it does help to set USB mouse and keyboard to legacy.

In some cases, adding noapic or noacpi or apci=off to the boot loader will help activate USB mouse and keyboard.

If you have PS/2 connectors, use them instead because they are a lot more reliable than USB.
