usb port problem
Hi everybody,
I have Debian linux server with next kernel: Linux debian-tax 2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-amd64. Unfortunately, I get the next message: "usb 2-8: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 20" and I can't use the USB port. The pendrive and external winchester does not work. What is the problem? It is interesting, I used it for some monts and it was right. I find this text in the "syslog": "Jan 20 10:03:26 localhost kernel: usb 2-6: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Jan 20 10:03:26 localhost kernel: usb 2-6: device descriptor read/64, error -71 Jan 20 10:03:26 localhost kernel: usb 2-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 118 Jan 20 10:03:26 localhost kernel: usb 2-6: device not accepting address 118, error -71 Jan 20 10:03:27 localhost kernel: usb 2-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 119 Jan 20 10:03:27 localhost kernel: usb 2-6: device not accepting address 119, error -71 Jan 20 10:03:27 localhost kernel: usb 2-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 120 Jan 20 10:03:27 localhost kernel: usb 2-6: device descriptor read/64, error -71" P.s: My English not to good. |
Does nobody have idea?

If the disk is ok it could be the port going bad, i.e. losing power. I've gotten the same error with a WD Passport because my laptop's USB ports couldn't provide enough power so I had to use an AC powered usb hub. It could also be a bug in the kernel. With several kernels in the 2.6.2x series I've had the same problem after swapping disks in the same usb port. A reboot would always fix that. Hope this helps |
