USB Mouse causes system freeze

I'm using RH9, and whenever I use any usb intellimouse of mine (optical and wireless explorer) it cause the system to freeze, with no response in X-Windows. However, if I use a ps/2 adapter on the optical, it works. However, I want to use the wireless explorer mouse. Could this be a bad config in the XF86Config?

O yea, my specs are:

Athlon XP 1800
512 MB DDR
Asus A7N266-C (nForce 415 chipset)
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro

Hmm well I don't really know, I am quite a linux newbie, but what i noticed while using Mandrake 9.1 is sometimes my USB mouse would just freeze up, but not the whole system. This would happen in the install and once or twice in X. I could either unplug and replug the mouse or just keep going one or two screens (use the keyboard) and it would work agian. I don't know if this is the same as your problem, but its worth a try.

I had this problem in the past and I had to mess with my BIOS settings.

I had a current problem that it I have a Compact Flash reader which works perfectly or freezes depending which USB socket I plug it into!

My mobo is an Asus A7N266VM so I suppose it has something in common with yours (nForce 220D chipset). I am beginning to wonder about this nForce chipset, it is giving me so much pain that I might just dust off my old PC Chips 810LMR. It might be slow but it never let me down!

I had this problem with my laptop only with my keyboard and it was that my usb and keyboard were sharing IRQ's and when I would plug usb mouse in it would disable my keyboard.

Check and see if you have an IRQ conflict
