USB mouse and keyboard prob

Hi All ,
We are using LINUX AS 3.0 . When we plug USB Keyboard and USB Mouse directly to server it is working fine. As all servers are mounted in HP-RACK we are using KVM Switch- to access these servers.Through USB connector server is connected to the KVM Switch.Whenever server boots; by the time is passes BIOS level, the keyboard and mouse do respond, but once OS starts booting/kernel takes over we loose control of keyboard and mouse.
Please help .

Firstly there is no such thing as Linux AS 3, you should give the full name and version of the Linux distribution that you are running. I assume you mean Redhat Enterprise Linux AS. Version 3.x uses a 2.4 kernel which has problems with certain usb devices particularly keyboards and mice. If possible use a ps2 interface instead.

Hi reddazz

yes the OS is Linux Advanced Server 3.0 with kernel 2.4 . And the USB keyboard and mouse work well when connected directly . So do you really think that 3.0 is not supporting these things ?? . Only when we connect it to KVM switch that time it gives this problem . that too when the OS starts booting . Please help .

So it could be a problem with your KVM switch if it works fine directly.

No it just that this Redhar AS 3.0 is not compatible with this KVM switch . But then again how do we sort it out ....? cauze on the same KVM switch other servers ( windows ) are working fine .
So do we have to update any RPM or so ?
