usb modem speedtouch problem

I nearly get my ADSL USB speedtouch modem to work following the howto in knoppix forums.
When I try to connect it says something like:
"Error 237. Another device/program is already accesing the modem"

I am a real newbie. Thanks for any help

I'm repeating myself ;-)

I've been using the userspace driver method for over one your with Mandrake, Red Hat, Debian, Gentoo and finally Slackware:

There is another method, the kernel driver:
http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/

The first method is more simple to apply, the second one is told to be more stable. Since I've never had problems with the first method however, I kept on using it.
