Unhappy usb modem doesnt work

I have a diamond supra express 56k usb modem that worked fine under redhat 9 and fedora core 1, kernel 2.4. I upgraded to fedora core 2, kernel 2.6 standard install, and i just cant seem to get it working. Its recognized and gives its information under the devices menu. From windows i determined it is using COM3. Ive tried all the device options under kppp and all of them say the modem is either busy or cant be found. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul J
