USB mic by Blue doesn't work

I just purchased a cardioid mic called a snowball from Blue Microphones. It is supposed to work well with Linux. However I can't get any sound out of it that is understandable. It sounds like a 78 rpm record at about 14 rpm. I can record that and run it through Audacity and change the sample rate (double) and it sounds wonderful. But I cannot use it with any applications - especially Skype.

Has anyone successfully used a Snowball from Blue on a Linux box?
