Usb mass storage device

Hello to all.

Here is the question: I have a notebook's harddisk attached to an external ide interface, connected to usb.
I recompiled kernel in order to make it works (I activated usb mass storage support, scis support for disk and usb support), but even if system see the hardware, I can't access and mount the disk.
Could someone help?
Do a particular driver exist for this hardware?

Thanks

Well, I would give this a go...

Open a term
modprobe usb-storage
mount -t <filesystem> /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdrive

And hope it worked.

Thanks for your reply, but it didn't work.

When I mount device, system reply:

"sda1 is not a valide device"

I tried with other device name, but I recived same message.
Perhaps my external interface is not supported, (It give me problems also in windosw: in Windows2000 I can access the disk, but I can not format it or partition it. )

I tried also to install linux with this device attached, in order to see if system detected it automatically, but everything was vane........

Bha.........

No, device is not listened in fstab.....

Vane, vane, vane........ device is attached, system give it driver, but in the scis log I see a beautyfull "NULL"!!!!!!!!!!
I think I can't use this device in the right way.

Do Perhaps someone know an alternative? A particular driver or somethink similar.....
